I’m excited to introduce Resources, a new and easier way to use your API from Paragon workflows. With Resources, you'll be able to define your API configuration in one place and add Triggers and Requests that use your API from any integration and workflow.

As we’ve grown, and the number of integrations each of our customers are building has grown, we've recognized the need for a more first-class experience to connect to your own APIs and services within Paragon workflows. Resources is our answer to that need.

What is a Resource?

If you’ve been building integrations on Paragon, you’ve probably set up the same API requests across different workflows, or set up App Events in Paragon to trigger workflows even if you already have a webhooks API. Resources will be where you can define your API services as reusable configurations: how they authenticate, how they send requests, and how webhooks are set up.

This unlocks many benefits, including:

  • A more secure way to authenticate requests into your own API

  • Using pre-configured request steps for your API

  • The ability to use your app’s existing webhooks to trigger workflows

Simplifying authentication

Resources supports a wide range of managed authentication scenarios for your APIs, including OAuth 2.0, API keys, or other common authentication methods, across both app-level and user-level auth implementations.

Making request to your API

Instead of using our generic HTTP request step which you need to configure for your own API for every workflow, you can now use the Resource step which has all the details (auth, base URL, etc.) pre-configured.

Internal webhook triggers

We recently shipped Custom Webhooks, which enables you to build webhook triggers for any integration (including Custom Integrations). With Resources, you can use that same webhook listener infrastructure to receive events from your internal webhooks to trigger Workflows. This eliminates the need to implement separate request triggers or App Events specifically for Paragon.
